Ejent SebaCounter notes for small service points

Five mistakes that repeat everywhere

None of these are exotic. They are the same five, in roughly the same order, at almost every counter in its first year.

The expensive mistakes are the boring ones.
The expensive mistakes are the boring ones.

1. Taking the rate without the table

Covered on the commission page. A rate that does not clear your rent is not a rate, it is a hobby.

2. Sizing the float for a quiet Tuesday

Then closing at two in the afternoon on the first of the month, which is the day that pays for the quiet Tuesdays.

3. Letting the helper handle cash without a count

Not because helpers steal. Because without a count at handover, an honest mistake has no owner and the argument poisons the arrangement.

4. Keeping records only when something goes wrong

Records written only after trouble prove nothing. The value is in the ordinary days that give the bad day something to be compared to.

5. Treating the float as profit

The most expensive one. Money in the drawer is working capital. Spending it feels free and shows up three days later as a counter that cannot trade.
